Removal and Treatment of Hazardous Basement Mold Contamination Before New Rebuild, Rutherford, NJ
SERVPRO was called out to remove, clean, and treat hazardous mold contamination, that had formed on the basement sheet rock ceilings and underlying ceilings joists after a heavy water damage occurred. After the source of the water damage was corrected the crews were required to tear out the old wet ceiling drywall, wet insulation, clean up, and bag the contaminated debris for disposal to an on-site dumpster. Air movers and large dehumidifiers were used to dry the remaining structure and surrounding area for 3 days. A detailed hepa-vacuuming was performed throughout, along with a heavy floor cleaning. A negative air fan/scrubber was required to run for a 24 hour period, and an antimicrobial agent was applied to the ceiling. In preparation for the new rebuild, the ceiling joists were properly sealed with one coat of shellac to encapsulate the joist system.
